Königswinter. "Heute sehen wir etwas ganz Besonderes." Da war sich Peter Wirtz ganz sicher. Und er dürfte sogar Recht mit seiner Feststellung haben. Die Ausstellung, die der Bürgermeister im Margarethenhof eröffnete, ist selbst für die Königswinterer Kunsttage etwas Außergewöhnliches.
7. Kunsttage in Königswinter: Agenda-Sprecher geht von gut 2000 Besuchern aus

KÖNIGSWINTER. Sonnenschein lag am Samstag über Königswinter und lockte noch mehr Besucher als erwartet zu den Kunsttagen. "Wir sind in der Mitte angekommen und können schon sagen, dass die Kunsttage als Experiment gelungen sind", so Klaus Uwe Meier, Sprecher der Lokalen Agenda 21 und Mitinitiator der 7. Königswinterer Kunsttage. Und wenn er die zahlreichen Kunsttreffs in der Altstadt und weit darüber hinaus einmal überblickt, um die Besucherzahl bis zum 10. März hochzurechnen, kommt er gut und gern auf 2000 Besucher.
Germans live all over the world. They adapt quickly to their new homes, speak the languages of their host countries and integrate into their adopted societies. It appears that Germans strive to blend in. But only to a point; at some time most immigrants find something in themselves that can only be described as ‘German’ and is based on their roots, their upbringing, their “Heimat”. German immigrants to the United States until the 1960s recognized this common identity and found a little of the old world in clubs and societies. “Arbeiterbildungsverein” or “Schwabenclub”, “Pacific Sänger Bund” or “Oakland Naturfreunde”, were all clubs in which German emigrants stayed connected with Germany.

Dual identities of German-American artists explored in show
'DOPPELGÄNGER," a group show of German American Artists (GAA), opens today at the 1870 Art Center in Belmont. The works explore the influences of two worlds, two homes — Germany and America — on the artists. The show's title relates to a feeling of living in "parallel universes," with the influence of the artists' German upbringing and education interwoven into their artistic expression, no matter how long they have lived in America.
